Wycombe Heights 3rd April

The new season of inter-club matches started with a damp morning trip to Wycombe Heights.  After a full English breakfast the finely tuned Downshire golfers warmed–up ready for teeing off.

The weather was fine and the course was in good condition.  So far so good.

In the first match Carl Hawkins and Mike (the orange man) Margetts succumbed at the 15th.  Hopefully a temporary blip, the orange man will return.

Match 2, the usually reliable Jeff Dutton and John Padbury Jnr didn’t have one of their better days and lost on the 14th.

Match 3, John Cash and Kevin Randell battled hard to secure a half.

Match 4, Jerry Jones and John Stringer fought a tight game to eventually secure a win 2 up.

Match 5, Michael Wood and Jeremy Clarke built up a 4 hole lead but could not sustain this and lost 2 down.  Unfortunately Jeremy was affected by a stomach complaint that required many trips behind the sparse foliage in the latter stages of the round.

In the final match, Steve Bendall and Mike Lansley were narrowly defeated in another close game and went down 2 & 1.

The final result was Wycombe Heights 4.5 The Downshire 1.5

Carl and Mike won the lowest net with a score of 63.5 narrowly beating two 64s and two 64.5s, suggesting that we didn’t play that badly.

The return match is in May and hopefully we will be able to reverse this result.
